Although the competitive season is relatively short, it is usually very popular and successful. Athletics is a traditional part of the Curriculum and our Extra-Curricular programme. Boys compete at all age groups starting at the local level and go on to National standard. We regularly win both the local and regional competitions with at least thirty boys competing at the County Championships.
The English Schools’ Cup competition has been a firm favourite amongst the boys as they get to perform as a team. We have managed to reach the National Finals five times in just over a decade. In 2014 the Year 8 squad attained a school best of 6th. The year culminates with a hugely competitive House based Sports Day held at Salisbury Athletics Club.
The Cross Country teams at BWS have an enviable record of success in competition against local schools. Talent and training have meant that teams have regularly won the local Leagues in all three age groups. We also have significant numbers of boys representing the District and County Teams, and boys also compete in National Cross Country and track events at National level.
Training takes place in PE and Games lessons and there is also a Running Club which meets every Tuesday after school at South Wilts Athletics Track. All standards of athlete are welcome to attend these sessions.
