Eleven nervous, but keen yr 8’s took to the hardwood for the first time just before the Xmas break to see if they could start their Basketball journey on a positive note. Both sides were very inexperienced and there was a lot of learning happening along with some great competitive play.

St. John’s got the early lead with a couple of nice lay-ups, but the pre-game chat about playing principles soon came into effect as Bishops started to Defend, Rebound and Run!! Although they were down by one at the end of the 1st, the momentum had swung in our favour and confidence was growing.

The second was all Bishops and was won by us 12-4. To their credit St. John’s came back strong in the third but they could not get back level and we went on to extend our lead once again in the fourth. Scoring was spread amongst the team with the size of Curran securing him 8pts and the attacking nature of Penny with another 8. But it was the combined defence of Van der Shee, Whale and Dibble that really gave the others a platform to play off.

A great start with plenty more to come.
