A tough home defeat for the U16’s against a well drilled Wey Valley side is disheartening for the boys, but equally another valuable step in the right direction.
Matthieu Rident’s over arousal led to him having to sit for a huge portion of the game as he picked up three silly fouls. This forced his other less experienced team-mates to really step up and play some good Basketball, particularly at the defensive end. Both George Diaper and Chris Nichols had a huge impact on the flow of the game. George making two big 3’s early on and Chris with his relentless pursuit for rebounds.
The scoreline really only expanded in the last 5 minutes of the match as we switched our defence and tried to make a push to cut the deficit. George Woodford-Whites offence was absent for the whole game but his potential to score was a threat throughout, unfortunately nothing would fall for him.
With Rugby out of the way the 16’s should look to focus the efforts on fulfilling their potential on the hardwood as they could be a very good side.
