The first match in the WSFA U18 league was closely contested in the first half with both sides having opportunities to score. Bishop’s took an early lead through James Richard’s with a carefully placed shot from outside the box, beating the keeper’s outstretched arm into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Monty George made an excellent save deflecting a goal bound shot onto the post just before half time ensuring that Bishop’s remained in a narrow 1-0 lead at the break.
The second half saw two quick goals with James Richard’s scoring with another long range effort but this time into the opposite corner. The ball was struck so hard that it dislocated the keeper’s fingers and he had to be replaced. The substitute keeper mishandled the ball during the next attack and presented Callum Hodge with a close range tap-in to give Bishop’s control of the game.
The final goal came towards the end of the second half, the culmination of over 15 passes, with Matt Yeldon scoring at the far post following an excellent cross from Lewis Rutledge.
There were a number of really good performances but Dan Wilkins, both for his defending and crosses into the box, was exceptional good throughout the match.
