In this, their final game of the season, the U13As took fairly slowly to the 1000 start and went behind early on in the first half. Once they had organised themselves more effectively within the 13-a-side format and managed to secure a little more ball in hand, the boys in blue began to make much more of an impact and stretched Poole at every opportunity. With some adventurous running and quick thinking between the half backs, BWS found themselves 24-19 up at the half.
Entering the second with much more confidence, the weather began to plays its own part in proceedings. The rain and wind made for an error strewn half with plenty of dropped ball and handling errors from both sides. Ultimately, it was the speed and attacking prowess amongst the BWS team that took them to a really pleasing win with 3 tries in the half. The final score of 43-29 reflected some excellent running rugby and an advantage over their opponents in open play, but also highlights the defensive work and maturity that will come with a little more age and experience. Certainly something to look forward to as the boys move on.
Congratulations to all the boys who have been involved this season, it has been a great pleasure to coach the group and a special thanks must be reserved for Mr Paden and Mr Clarke who have both given up their own time and expertise while accompanying the 13As for every fixture this season. I am extremely grateful to both as the season would not have been half the success without their help and I know the boys have valued their presence and input at every step.
