The U16s following their impressive showing at Stowe a couple of weeks ago went to HCS with high hopes of bringing home some silverware. Such has been the popularity of 7s that we took two teams who played in both pools. The B team made up with boys from the 15s season stuck to their guns and performed well, but lost their shape at times which cost them dearly.
Despite this they recorded a strong victory over Sexeys School and also a commendable draw against Windsor Boys School. They narrowly missed out on a Cup Semi Final spot and went into the Plate where they were defeated by Seaford College. A good showing from a relatively scratch team.
The A team had potentially the tougher group and more games, taking on the likes of St Barts, Seaford College, Robert Clack, Perins and City of London Freemans. Despite a shaky start in their first match where the long journey was yet to get out of their legs they went on to score 158 points, while only conceding 36 with five straight wins. This set up a Cup Semi Final against Windsor Boys who had some strong runners, but ultimately not enough of a threat to challenge our well-structured defence.
The final saw us against Portsmouth Grammar for the second consecutive year, except this time with a different outcome as we ran out 28-7 winners. All in all an excellent showing from the boys, blooding some of the less experienced and gaining invaluable game time, while the As secured a well-deserved and comprehensive victory to ensure tails are up and heads are held high ready for Rosslyn Park this coming Tuesday.
