One match from Bolton! The three top players have been a part of the tennis squad for the last four years, have played more tennis than anyone in the school for the school and so knew all about what was at stake.
Unfortunately the singles did not go to plan as Barry wrapped his singles up fairly routinely and Benson quickly followed. Miles went down to love, and Rident lost 3-6, a disappointing result for a young man playing well.
Rident however regained his composure and combined with Barry to win 6-0 in their doubles and do all they could to progress. Benson and Miles however did not make it quite so easy after dropping the first two games they then led 5-4 to win it and 6-5 to win it. However it went to tie break and they eventually lost 7-6 to take the match to a championship tie break.
With Barry and Rident in strong form they stuck together in the doubles, but didn’t do my constitution any good as they lost the first serve in the tie break. They were tied initially, but eventually pulled away to lead 9-4. Still they couldn’t see it off and eventually finished the tie break 10-7 and gained qualification to the National Finals at Bolton.
Barry and Rident clapped hands triumphantly and Miles and Benson joined them on court for a team celebration. Stanwell had put up a tough fight and played well, but the BWS boys stuck to it and earned themselves a spot at The Nationals for the first time.
Very well played boys.
